Osa's wild ride

So over the weekend Osa’s happy face has been replaced with panting and crying. She is experiencing some pain and we are trying to help her get through it. It takes her between 30-45 minutes outside hopping about to finally potty and that we feel is putting too much strain on her recovery.  We’ve spoken to the vet several times and she is now pretty much maxed out on her meds save dosing her with some trazadone to help with the agitation.

Good days and bad days… yup.

Osa had her post surgery follow up today and is doing really well.  She was bouncy and all happy today.  We were so happy when she finally peed and pooped on her walk… silly the things we learn to appreciate.  Her stitches come out on the 15th and will probably start the chemo same day.

This is hard. We are being strong however for our girl.

Osa is being so strong and brave! If I ever go into a hospital unknowing, and wake up with out a leg, I will not complain after having seen her through this.

She was sent home with an infusion catheter in the wound which we are injecting every 6 hours with pain numbing medicine along with an array of meds.  I’m so thankful of my wonderful husband, who is an RN.  He took right over with her medication regimen.  He’s keeping me grounded and together.

I took the day off and am now going to fabricate a ramp for our front entry steps and one for our car –  MAD FAST.

She is due back in the pawspital Friday morning to be assessed and get the catheter removed.

Just a short week ago we got the shocking news that Osa Menor, our beautiful 115 lb 4 year old Anatolian Shepard Dog had a bone tumor just above her left wrist.  We had a biopsy performed, which tested positive for osteosarcoma.  I am stunned at the rate this cancer developed in her leg. Luckily no masses showed on her chest xrays.

I found this site quickly online and after reading some inspirational accounts of tripawd parents, my husband and I gained the courage to proceed with an amputation and follow on chemotherapy.  Osa is a strong healthy girl, and we have reasonable assurance she will recover well.  She goes in for the surgery tomorrow morning and I am preparing myself for this life changing event.

I know I don’t have to explain to anyone here about the level of love we have for our ‘daughter’.  Its going to be a wild ride.
